Welcome to FreeVerse

Are you a Houston-area poet age 13-19? FreeVerse offers year-round opportunities in poetry specifically for you. FreeVerse events include open mics, FREE writing workshops, and an annual three-day festival. FreeVerse programming is offered by Writers in the Schools and its slam poetry program, Meta4 Houston. It is made possible by our community partners, including Basket Books and Art, Eldorado Ballroom/Project Row Houses, Little Dreamer Coffee, Meow Wolf Houston, and more!​

Individual poets and youth slam teams: join Writers in the Schools and Meta4 Houston for FreeVerse Weekend, three days of master workshops, open mics, competition, and community building in Houston, TX.

FreeVERSE WORKSHOPS​

Free, monthly workshops and open mics for youth for ages 13–19. Join young poets, spoken word artists, and songwriters to learn, connect, and share. Each session features a pro writer, a themed workshop, and open mic. Held in inspiring spaces around Houston.​
